We are praying and hoping to find some new volunteers to serve as Shepherds for Christ Church Caring, a ministry whose mission is “No one walks alone.” Shepherds work in small teams to keep in touch via telephone and sometimes email with a designated segment of the congregation. In addition to making periodic check-in calls during this time of separation, Shepherds also contact by phone those who are experiencing challenging circumstances, such as illness or death of a family member, to offer support from various other church ministries. They then communicate those needs to the leaders of those other ministries, with help as needed from the Shepherd Leader.

Shepherds keep the leaders and clergy informed of their contacts, usually through emails. They rotate duties monthly with the other Shepherds on their team; the goal is that each Shepherd serves only four months out of each year. Acting as a Shepherd requires a training session at the church with the Shepherd Leader, along with completion of Safeguarding God’s People. Shepherds need to be comfortable with checking their email and sending emails as needed.
