We will be changed in our Easter experience.

In the Liturgical Church Holy Week is a weeklong experience that commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the dinner with the disciples on Maundy Thursday, the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday, commemoration of His rest in death and descent into Hades on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday is when we celebrate His Resurrection. There are many symbols and mysteries that capture our attention in Holy Week, and can draw our hearts into special and unexpected experiences.

At Christ Church, we will be celebrating Holy Week starting with Palm Sunday. Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey symbolizing His entry as King of Peace, instead of an entry as a military leader on a horse seeking to take control in War. Palms are laid on His path as part of the expectation of Him as King symbolizing Triumph and Victory. We will experience the events of Holy Week in the Passion Narrative with the events of Holy Week, portrayed until Holy Saturday. Throughout Holy Week, there is much symbolism in light and darkness, in music and silence, color and starkness leading to our celebration on Easter Sunday.

Good FRiday

Friday, April 7

Stations of the Cross | 12:05 PM | In-person
Good Friday Service | 6 PM | In-person & Livestreamed

The Friday before Easter Day, on which the church commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and special acts of discipline and self-denial. The liturgy of the day includes John’s account of the Passion gospel, a solemn form of intercession known as the solemn collects (dating from ancient Rome), and optional devotions before the cross (commonly known as the veneration of the cross). The eucharist is not celebrated in the Episcopal Church on Good Friday, but Holy Communion may be administered from the reserved sacrament at the Good Friday service.
